Am I pregnant?  Here are some early signs!

Many women have the feeling they are pregnant before their period is late or they take a pregnancy test.  With several of my children, I've known intuitively at the time of conception.

Here are some typical and not so typical signs you may be pregnant.

I'm seeing pregnant women everywhere.  Am I a preggo too?
Before a pregnancy test can confirm "pregnant" or "not pregnant" our environment tends to let us know in funny ways.  The most important thing I can tell you right now is to rely on your intuition.  It's usually right and tends to be highly developed during pregnancy.  Vivid dreams, aha moments, and signs in your environment may seem like crazy and unreliable signs on a normal day, but, I've in fact found incredibly reliable during pregnancy.  I've often felt I was pregnant before ANY real physical signs came into play.  Instead, my first sign was that my husband and I started seeing pregnant women at every turn.

My period is early!
Spotting is pretty typical early on in pregnancy.  If it is much lighter than normal, and if you get it a few days earlier than expected, it might be from implantation bleeding rather than your period.  In essence, when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall, it can cause a little bloodshed.  Some women even think they have had their period when in fact they are pregnant.

Ouch, my boobs hurt!
Overly sensitive nipples and heavy-feeling breasts, darkening of the areolas, and even more pronounced veins on your breasts can be one of the first signs that you're pregnant.

I am exhausted!
If you're suddenly more exhausted than normal, it might be a response to the increasing hormones in your body. For many women, this fatigue continues through the first trimester, and then in the second trimester your energy comes back, in spades.

Uggg I'm so Queasy!
Ugg, I'm so queasy.  Most pregnant women start to get that unwelcomed nauseas feeling when they're about 6 weeks preggo, but some can experience morning sickness (which can also be all day sickness) even before a positive pregnancy test.

I have to pee more frequently!
During pregnancy, even early on, your body produces extra fluids which means more trips to the bathroom day and night!

Not tonight honey, I have a headache!
Headaches can often show up early on, which is a result of changes in your hormones. Just in case you are actually pregnant, take Tylenol which is safe in pregnancy instead of ibuprofen.

My aching back!
If you don't normally have back pain, it could mean your ligaments are loosening already, yes, even this early!. This one often continues throughout the pregnancy as the baby grows.  So, if possible, start the prenatal yoga and frequent massages as early as you can to keep up with it!

I've got cramps!
Am I getting my period or am I a preggo?  It's hard to tell since the symptoms at this stage are so similar.  If you're feeling crampy, it might be the implantation of the fertilized egg in your uterus which is causing the cramping.  And, implantation literally occurs right around the time you'd feeling cramps during a normal cycle.  Confusing!

I'm obsessed!
Suddenly, you have Chinese food on the brain.  This is how I felt early on when pregnant with my daughter Savana. Or perhaps seafood, which you normally love, now makes you sick.  I felt this way with my son Jadin and I lived in the islands at the time.  Very inconvenient!  If you notice food cravings or aversions that weren't part of your life before , it could be your body telling you you're pregnant.

I'm so bloated!
You swear you fit in your favorite skirt just a few days ago and now it's tight. If you're feeling a little bloated and constipated, it might be extra progesterone due to pregnancy, which literally slows down your digestive system.

I'm feeling like the wicked witch . . .
Moodiness is another signal of your period OR pregnancy!  So, it can be challenging to tell the difference!  Either way, you've got a great excuse for being a nut case!

I have a funny taste in my mouth!
A funny sort of metallic taste in your mouth can be a very early sign of pregnancy.  For ALL of my pregnancies, my husband will say it's my first physical sign. And, it shows up fairly early on, before many of the others.

What's that terrible smell?
The smells that normally don't bother you may send you through the roof at this stage of pregnancy.  Our senses (all of them) are heightened when pregnant, and this is a very common early sign.  I have even been known to feel repulsed by smells that I normally love at this stage!  I remember in my last pregnancy I couldn't stand the smell of plumeria's, which is truly one of my favorite smells under normal circumstances!

My period is late!
As you have read, many of the early signs of pregnancy are also symptoms of PMS. It can be tricky to know the difference because the cramps, mood-swings and bloating come with both pregnancy and getting your period. The most telling clue of being pregnant besides a positive pregnancy test will be a missed period. If your cycle is fairly regular and you're late, you should head to the store for a pregnancy test.
