Getting Your Toddler To Eat!
It's easy to get frustrated when our toddlers refuse to eat, and it can make meal time stressful for the entire family. This is the time when flexibility and creativity go a long way! I recommend offering "finger food" with dips. Toddlers enjoy dipping and dunking! Dips such as ranch dressing, guacamole, tomato sauce and hummus are a favorite among toddlers. Allowing your toddler to be interactive at meal time will keep them interested in eating and their tummies full! Here are a few ideas to get your creativity rolling:
Sliced avocado
Cheese blocks
Turkey or chicken tenders with dip
Broccoli trees with dip
Carrot sticks with dip
Jicima slices with dip
Cheese quesadilla with dip
Turkey dog sliced up and with dip
Apples sliced with peanut butter (or almond) to dip in or spread on the apple
pasta (rigatoni, fuscilli,) with dip
Toddlers also enjoy spreading the peanut butter and cheese spread themselves, and can handle a small and dull bread knife at this age. It keeps them busy while helping them to develop their fine motor skills. Toddlers feel good about themselves when they can accomplish and help out at meal time! Some spreads to try are guacamole, cheese, cream cheese, apple sauce, and peanut butter. Finally, my toddlers have always enjoyed smoothies and it's an easy way to provide some nutritious foods into their little bellies! They tend to love to press the button on the blender and watch it mix up too.
