Beating Morning Sickness
If you are in the first trimester of your pregnancy, there is a good chance you are nausea for some or most of the day. I'm not sure why it's called morning sickness! For me and many of my clients it's more like afternoon/evening sickness. Or even ALL DAY sickness. The best part of the day can be in the morning and it goes downhill from there! We all have our unique experiences!
One thing I am 100% sure of is that exercise helps. Believe me, I know it's the LAST thing you want to do when you are feeling like you are on a boat, sea sick to the max. Your natural inclination is to want to lay down!
Yet, think about it; What would help you the most when you are on a boat feeling sick?
Getting OFF the boat, putting your feet on solid ground, getting outside in the fresh air, taking a few long and DEEP breaths, and going for a walk!
Walking is one "morning sickness" remedy which will literally help EVERY "Preggo" with morning sickness.
Did you know "morning sickness" is literally from having too much progesterone flowing throughout your system? And that's why walking, without a doubt, dilutes the hormone and helps you to feel better!
Beyond going for a walk, here are some other ideas that may or may not work. Again, some of these "remedies" will work for one woman's pregnancy, while others may work for another......
Acupuncture! I frequented my acupuncturist's office twice a week during one of my pregnancies and it was a life saver! Also, massage at this stage of the pregnancy feels nurturing and helps take your mind off the nausea.
Eat small amounts of food all day long rather than three large meals.
Only eat food that you are craving. If you are craving it, consider this valuable information which you can trust! Now, I'm not suggesting you eat dove bars all day :)
Do not take your prenatal vitamin on an empty stomach or first thing in the morning. Instead, take it at night, before you go to bed.
Try wearing the elastic wristbands (sold in pharmacies) that prevent Seasickness.
Swim laps in a pool. This only works if you are OK with the smell of chlorine! The water can feel nurturing, and swimming has the same effect on the progesterone overload as walking.
Take an aromatherapy bath at the time of day when you are at the height of your nausea. And, read a good book while you soak! Distracting yourself tends to help!
Would you believe sex can help? For a few of my pregnancies it helped me. it would sometimes take some convincing on my husband's part that I could possible go from feeling absolutely GROSSE to sexual. I will say, he was pretty much always right and it did make me feel better! And, it also felt good to him that he could finally do something to help!
Morning sickness typically lasts until the 13-16th week of pregnancy. Weeks 9-13 can be the most intense because there is tremendous development going on during that time period.
Before you know it, you'll be in the la la land of the second trimester!
